2010 Cum Laude Society

Caitlin Britos
The daughter of Cesar and Kathleen Britos of Portland, Caitlin will be attending Amherst College in the fall. Caitlin is the recipient of a Community Service Citation and the Josephine Detmer History Award. She has been active in Varsity Girls Soccer for four years and Varsity Girls Tennis for three. She has participated in the Waynflete chapter of Make-A-Wish, Buddy Lunch, the Mentoring program, Community Service Activity, the Upper School Chorus, and the GirlsŐ A Cappella group.


Bethany Campbell Bethany is the daughter of Tom and Lori Campbell of Portland. She plans to attend Hamilton College in the fall. Bethany has received a Community Service Citation, has played Varsity Girls Soccer and Girls Lacrosse. She was active as a Reading Buddy and participated in the Drama program and the Community Service Activity.


Emily Guffin
The daughter of Peter and Barbara Guffin of Freeport, Emily plans to attend Colorado College in the fall. She received a Community Service Citation and was active in Musical Outreach, as well as the Waynflete Environmental Action Group. She played Field Hockey for four years and was a member of the Crew Team for three years. Emily has also been a member of the Casco Bay YMCA Stripers Competitive Swim Team, serving as captain this year.


Grace High
Grace is the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth High of Cumberland Foreside. She plans to attend Brown University. She is a recipient of the Barbara Freeman Award for Literary Scholarship and a Community Service Citation, as well as the Josephine Detmer History Award. Grace ran on the Varsity Cross Country team for four years, as co-captain this season, and was on the Varsity Track and Field team for two years. She has participated in Yearbook and Musical Outreach, and has played the violin in local groups and ensembles and in private lessons for 13 years.


Madeline Landry
Madeline is the daughter of Gail Landry and Merrill Marsh of Portland, and Gene Landry and Rita Heimes of Portland. She plans to attend Bates College in the fall. Madeline is the recipient of a Barabara Freeman Award for Literary Scholarship, a Literary/Cultural Appreciation Award, and a Community Service Citation. She played Girls Lacrosse and has been a member of the Girls Soccer team. She has been involved in Community Service Activity, the Mentoring program, Waynflete Drama, the Model U.N., and has played the Bluegrass fiddle for eight years.


Lindsey Macleod
The daughter of Cathel and Jan Macleod of Cumberland, Lindsey plans to attend Bowdoin College in the fall. She is a recipient of the Margaret Chenery Math Award and a Sportsmanship Award in athletics, and was a participant in the Women's Literary Union Writing Contest for two years. Lindsey has represented Waynflete in Swimming for four years, has been a member of the Varsity Field Hockey team for four years (captain in 2010), as well as the Crew Team. She has also particiapted in Science Olympiad and Community Service Activity.


Julie Merriam
Julie is the daughter of Richard and Ruth Merriam of Kennebunkport. She plans to attend Yale University. Julie is the recipient of the Vergn Hewes Science Award and a Community Service Citation. She played Varsity Field Hockey for two years and JV Girls Lacrosse for two years. She has been involved in the Waynflete chapter of Make-A-Wish, Community Service Activity, and Project Story Boost.


Daniel Mitchell
The son of Rod and Cynde Mitchell of Peaks Island, Daniel plans to attend Tufts University in the fall. He is the recipient of a Community Service Citation. Daniel has played Varsity Boys Soccer for four years and has also been a member of the Maine Coast United Premier Soccer Team for four years. He has been involved in Project Respect, has volunteered at the Portland West Learning Center, and has participated in Buddy Lunch.


Nathaniel Niles
Nathaniel is the son of Ben and Anne Niles of South Freeport, and plans to attend Bowdoin College in the fall. He is the recipient of the Student Athlete Award. Nathaniel has been a member of the Varsity Nordic Ski Team for four years, the Varsity Boys Tennis team for four years, and the Varsity Cross Country team for two years. He has been involved in Science Olympiad for two years, and has been active in the Waynflete Environmental Action Group, Community Service Activity, and Project Story Boost.


Dora Novey-Buttfield
Dora is the daughter of Judy Novey of Portland, and Brewster Buttfield and Nancy Haller of Portland. She plans to attend Smith College in the fall. Dora is the recipient of the Dow Cup for Writing Excellence, the Irvil K. Pease Award (awarded to a student who exemplifies the spirit of Waynflete), and a Community Service Citation. She has been involved in the Gay Straight Alliance for two years, the Waynflete Environmental Action Group for two years, Project Story Boost, and Buddy Lunch. She served as coxswain for the Crew Team for two years.


Madeline Shapiro
The daughter of Jonathan Shapiro and Julie Boesky of Cape Elizabeth, Madeline plans to attend Barnard College in the fall. She is a recipienct of a Literary/Cultural Appreciation Award, a Community Service Citation, a Scholastic Gold Key Award, and was selected to attend the New England Young Writers Conference at Breadloaf last year. She has played Field Hockey for two years, and has been active in Yearbook, Community Service Activity, and the Waynflete chapter of Make-A-Wish.


Devin Van Dyke
The son of David and Karen Van Dyke of Lewiston, Devin plans to attend Haverford College in the fall. Devin has played Varsity Boys Tennis for four years, Varsity Boys Soccer for two, and JV Boys Basketball for two years. He has participated in Science Olympiad, the Science Bowl, the Waynflete Steel Drum Band, and Buddy Lunch.
