Caroline Suresh - Valedictorian - of Naples
Daughter of Abraham and Viji Suresh
Valedictorian and the youngest ever to graduate from LRHS, Caroline is the recipient of many awards and honors including being named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program as well as the AP Scholar with Distinction award. She is one of two students selected by Governor John Baldacci to attend a National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia this summer. She is a three-year member and 2010 president of the WorldQuest state championship team, is a Lions Club student of the month and attended Dirigo Girls State. She is very active in sports participating on the soccer, basketball, track and tennis teams over the years. Caroline states that she is not the best player on the team but she is good at being a team player. She is the National Honor Society treasurer, class secretary, a member of the math team and sang in Show Choir. Caroline’s involvement did not stop at school; she is an active member of the community as well. She enjoys her role as a Sunday school teacher and also helps out as a counselor at soccer camps. She likes to spend her free time hanging out with her friends and family. Some of her hobbies include ping-pong, NBA basketball, reading and writing. She is the recipient of the Barking Foundation Scholarship and will be attending Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH in the fall. She plans to go into a bio-medical research field and also enjoys politics. Among her future plans: to change the world.


Morgan McClean - Salutatorian - of Bridgton
Daughter of Jay and Nancy Morrissette of Bridgton and Tom and Debbie McClean of Waldoboro
Salutatorian of her class, she excelled in the classroom and on the playing field. Her awards and honors are many. A stand out athlete, she participates in varsity soccer, basketball and softball and made the McDonald’s All-State All-Academic team as well as was recognized as a Western Maine All Conference player. Morgan is the recipient of the Principal’s award and the DAR Good Citizen award. She is a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of student council, an active member of the AFS club and a vice president of the varsity club. She is also a Lions Club student of the month. She was selected as an alternate to the Dirigo Girl’s State School of Government. Morgan’s community involvement includes helping out at sports clinics, blood drives and local youth Halloween parties. In her free time, she enjoys writing poetry and doing arts and crafts. She plans to attend college in the fall at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburg, PA and then pursue a career that makes her happy.

Elizabeth Balchunas - of Sebago
Daughter of Joseph and Christine Balchunas
Betsy received the Excellence in Latin award. She has enjoyed her membership in National Honor Society, Coffee Talk and the Spanish club. Betsy is a talented athlete participating on the soccer and track and field teams. She also enjoyed figure skating so much that she became a junior figure skating coach. Her community involvement includes being a Sunday school teacher and Parish Council member. Betsy plans to attend the University of Maine, Orono.


Siyue Cheng - AFS Student - China
Daughter of Zhong Jun Wang and Yuan Jun Cheng
Host daughter of JR & Melissa Warren and family of Casco
Siyue (also known as Candy) has been a member of the softball team and ski club. She also participates on the math team and was a member of the WorldQuest state championship team. Some of Siyue’s hobbies include swimming and volunteering at Chinese schools. Her future plans are to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado and become an IT engineer.


Michelle Cheung - AFS Student - Hong Kong
Host daughter of Jeannine Lauber-Oren of Casco
Host siblings: Christian & Tyler Oren
Michelle enjoys playing the piano, drawing and reading. She is a member of the cross country and indoor track teams. She has also enjoyed her involvement with the tennis team this spring. She is a member of the WorldQuest state championship team and traveled to Washington, DC in April to compete in the national competition. Michelle is undecided on what her future holds for her. She is interested in becoming an environmentalist, a marine biologist or a geneticist. She will be attending the University of Maine, Orono in the fall.


Heidi Durapau - of Bridgton
Daughter of Brian and Jennifer Durapau
Heidi is an accomplished scholar. She is a member of show choir and an active member of her community. She enjoys volunteering at her church, especially helping with the public breakfasts and bean suppers. She has two brothers, Nick and Zack, and enjoys singing, swimming, kayaking and camping. Heidi plans to attend school to become a massage therapist.


Niomi Dyer - of Bridgton
Daughter of William and Marsha Dyer
Niomi is a member of the Interact club and has been a reoccurring name on the honor roll during her four years at Lake Region. She also participates in her youth group at Grace Christian Church. When Niomi has spare time, she enjoys reading, writing and listening to music. She plans to attend St. Josephs College in Standish, Maine in the fall.


Devin Fitzgerald - of Casco
Daughter of Kevin and Danni Fitzgerald
Devin holds the secretary position in the National Honor Society, AFS club and varsity club. She is also very involved in the community. She volunteers at Casco Days, as a tutor and as a coach at sports camps as well as participates in the Relay for Life. With all of her contributions, it is no wonder she was named Rotary Club citizen of the month for April. Devin participates in varsity soccer, basketball and softball and ASA and has been honored at all levels for her athletic abilities. These honors include: player of the year in basketball for 2009, an All-Academic selection for soccer and basketball, a Hancock Lumber player of the week and was a 2010 WMC leadership summit participant. Devin enjoys playing all sports and spending time with friends and family. She plans to attend college and follow her dream to become a teacher. She will attend the University of Maine in Farmington this fall.


Edona Gashi - AFS Student - Germany

Edona will always cherish her memories with friends and family during her year as an exchange student at LRHS. “I am super glad that I had the chance to see the ‘capitol city’ of the world; the most amazing city in the world, New York City! Edona participated on the LRHS WorldQuest state champion team and enjoyed traveling to Washington, DC to the national competition in April. She is a member of the AFS club and enjoyed her meetings and trips with them. Edona participated on the soccer, basketball and track and field teams and made many friends along the way. She enjoys drawing, hiking, dancing and traveling the world. Upon her return to Germany, she will finish two more years of high school and then plans to attend school to study to become a plastic surgeon. She is proud of making the honor roll and finishing in the top of her class at LRHS.


Abigail Hancock - of Casco
Daughter of Kevin and Alison Hancock
Abby has been a tremendous force not only in the classroom, but on the soccer field and basketball court as well. President of varsity club and a member of both the varsity soccer and basketball teams here at Lake Region, she also participates in AAU basketball. Abby has received many athletic awards and honors over the years including All Conference and All State recognition and being selected to the All-Academic teams for soccer and basketball. This past winter, she received a coveted spot on the Maine McDonald’s All-State basketball team. Abby is active in school life with involvement in the National Honor Society, AFS and student council. She is a familiar face in the community because of her many volunteer contributions. She enjoys helping at Casco Days, assisting with many youth sports camps and participating in an internship for the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. Abby enjoys playing sports and spending time with her friends and family. She is the recipient of the Lions Club student of the month award. Abby is an early decision selection to attend Trinity College in Hartford, CT in the fall and plans to continue to play basketball.


Allen Shephard Hayes, III - of Bridgton
Son of Allen and Leigh Hayes
Allen, or "Shep" as he is known, is the captain of the Cross-country, Nordic ski and tennis teams. Shep is proud to be honored with the “Laker super fan’ title and looks forward to passing the honor along, possibility to his younger brother Patrick. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is the treasurer of his class. Shep is a member of the 2010 WorldQuest state championship team. He also participates in drama and was selected to attend the Maine Youth Leadership Seminar. Out in the community, Shep participates in LEA camps, Lake Region Community Theatre and LRTV. He has been awarded citizen of the month by the Rotary Club and is a Hancock Lumber player of the week. Shep will be attending Boston University in Boston, MA this fall.


Maegan Katz - of Casco
Daughter of Michael and Lori Katz
Meagan is a member of the National Honor Society and the math team. She is a founding member of the Cyber Defense team at LRHS and is proud of their 2nd place finish in the state competition. She participates in activities like karate and skiing and worked extremely hard to earn membership in the ski patrol at Shawnee Peak. One of her hobbies is collecting Hard Rock Café pins. Some of Meagan’s community involvement includes volunteering at local blood drives, volunteering at Camp Sunshine, participating in the Moonlight Charity Challenge and in the pumpkin festival. Meagan is a Lions Club student of the month, a long-time member of the honor roll and the recipient of the RIT Computing Medal Award. She plans to study computer and digital forensics beginning in the fall at Champlain College in Burlington, VT.


Rasmus Lundvik - AFS Student - Sweden
Host son of Bruce and Linda MacDougall of Naples
Host siblings: Moe, Mark and Destiny
While at Lake Region, Rasmus took advantage of the athletic offerings and proved his athleticism participating in cross-country running, indoor track, outdoor track and field and tennis. He is a member of the AFS club and enjoyed his meetings and travels with the group. Rasmus was able to experience life in a large family while here and enjoyed his interactions with his host siblings: Moe, Mark & Destiny. He would like to thank the MacDougall family for opening their home to him this year so he could experience life in America.


Chelsea Meyers - of Naples
Daughter of Tom and Alison Meyers
Chelsea is a well-rounded student and athlete. Her hard work and determination earned her many awards and honors over the years including Western Maine All Conference recognition in soccer, basketball and softball. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and varsity club. Chelsea is treasurer of the AFS and a Lions Club student of the month recipient. She is active in her community with volunteer efforts on blood drives and sports clinics for basketball, soccer and softball. She also enjoys the team work involved in fundraising for all of her sports teams. She loves playing sports, hanging with friends and family….anything active. Chelsea plans to follow her heart to the University of Houston and continue to play soccer.


Thais Nogara-Carvalho - AFS Student - Brazil

Thais has enjoyed her AFS exchange year at LRHS. She was delighted to participate in the production of Grease - The Musical. She is a member of the AFS club and enjoyed meeting other exchange students and traveling. Thais enjoys listening to music, going to the beach and traveling. She will return to Brazil to complete her high school studies, go to college and travel around the world. She plans to become a journalist, live in New York City and become a correspondent for Brazil. "I had an amazing year! I will never forget my wonderful friends and my awesome family. Every moment will be forever special and unforgettable for me!"


Nienke Postma - Exchange Student - Belgium
Host daughter of Nancy Basselet - Casco
Host sister: Michelle Basselet
Nienke’s year at LRHS was filled to the brim with activities. She participated on the field hockey team in the fall, the indoor track team throughout the winter and the softball team in the spring all the while attending AFS club meetings and travels and studying night and day as an esteemed member of the WorldQuest state championship team. Nienke is undecided on her career choice. She took a diverse course load while at LRHS and excelled in everything from accounting and marketing to guitar, fashion design and American history and French. She plans to attend college upon her return to Belgium. She has been accepted to the Catholic University of Leuven and Ghent University.


Nicholas Quasnitschka - of Bridgton
Son of Greg and Linda Grinnell
Brother to Julie, Teddy and Greg, Jr.
Nick is the Sgt at Arms of the National Honor Society and was selected to receive the Good Kid award in the fall. He is a well-rounded student and athlete who participated in football, basketball and track and field over his high school career. Nick plans to attend Norwich University in Northfield, VT in the fall to pursue a career in criminal justice.


Sean Skillern - of Naples

Brother of Paul and Ryan
Sean is vice president of his class and a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish club. He is an avid student athlete participating in varsity football and on the first ever LRHS lacrosse team. He enjoys snowboarding, traveling and spending time with friends. Sean is the recipient of the Lion’s club student of the month award and was named to the Western Maine Conference All-Academic All Star team. Sean will pursue a career in elementary education at the University of Maine at Farmington beginning in the fall.


Ryo Sugino - AFS Student - Japan

While at LRHS, Ryo was happy to participate and contribute to the soccer team, indoor and outdoor track teams and the AFS club. He enjoys watching movies, reading and hanging out with his friends. He has been on the honor roll and has been named a Hancock Lumber player of the week. Ryo plans to attend college in the future but first must return to Japan to finish up a half year of high school.


Zachary Tomkinson - of Naples
Son of Donald and Pamela Tomkinson
Brother of Jacob and Gabrielle
Zachary finished 6th in his class with over a 100 GPA. He enjoys math and science and received many awards and honors for his academic accomplishments including the AP Scholar with Honors award. He has demonstrated a strong commitment in leadership while at LRHS. He is president of the student council this year and was treasurer his junior year. He also was a student mentor. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was a counselor at the Maine Youth Leadership camp the last two years. Zach participated in soccer, basketball and track and field for all four years serving as co-captain of the basketball and soccer teams his senior year. He was nominated to the State of Maine All Academic soccer team and was recognized with the prestigious Western Maine Conference Citizenship award. Over the years, Zach has been involved in his community through volunteer work with youth soccer and youth basketball camps. He also volunteers his time at his church with the annual church fair and at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen. He was honored with the Rotary Club citizen of the month award. Zachary will attend Worcester Poly Tech in Worcester, MA in the fall where he plans to study bio-medical engineering.


Sydney Walker - of Naples
Daughter of Eric and Anne Walker
Sister of Emma and Paul
Sydney is vice president of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the AFS club, drama club, jazz band, and show choir. She competes on the cross-country team in the fall and dances year round. Sydney is a St. Joseph’s Church choir and cantor member and is a board member for Lake Region Community Theater. She also volunteers at town Halloween parties. Sydney enjoys photography, choreographing and singing loudly! She received the Lions club student of the month award. Sydney’s vocal talents were recognized at the District Two Music Festival and the All State Jazz Festival as an honors vocalist. Her singing talent was showcased in many drama and musical productions at LRHS over her four year career. She would like to major in theatre and minor in dance while attending the honors college at the University of Maine, Orono in the fall. UMaine has awarded Sydney the distinguished student performing arts scholarship.


Megan Wandishin - of Casco
Daughter of Betsy Wandishin and Ted Wandishin
Megan is president of the AFS club and 2nd vice president of the varsity club. She is a member of student council and the National Honor Society. Megan was a Girl’s State School of Government delegate. She is a well-rounded and talented student athlete who excelled in soccer and basketball and was awarded Western Maine Conference All-Academic All Star recognition in both. She was very involved in her community volunteering as a referee and coach for Casco and Naples recreation programs and at sports camps. Megan was also a volunteer for Casco Days and participates in the Relay for Life. She enjoys playing sports, traveling and spending time with her friends and family. Megan plans to attend Wheaton College in Newton, MA in the fall to study international relations and minor in Spanish.


Steven Wiley - of South Casco

Steven is very active in school activities. He is a member of the choir, the cross country ski team, the track and field team, and the D & D club. He enjoys motocross and wrestling. Steven volunteers at Casco Days, town Halloween parties and at local elementary schools. Steven enjoys playing guitar, art and any outdoor activity - exercising. He would like to become a dentist and plans to travel the world. Steven will attend St. Joseph’s College in Standish, ME in the fall. He is the recipient of the McAuley Scholarship award.
