Top of the Class

MEAGHAN COLLEEN LYDON, daughter of Robert and Kim Lydon of Woolwich, is Valedictorian of the Class of 2009. She has been active on the Civil Rights Team and the Drama Club. She has performed and been part of the stage crew in Heartwood Regional Theater Company productions. Meg is also a member of the Girls Scouts, U.S.A. She is the recipient of the National Merit Scholarship Commended Student, Advanced Placement Scholar Award, National Spanish Exam Award, Smith Book Award, and the K.V.A.C. Senior Scholars Award. She was selected as a Girls State Representative and attended in June of 2008. She volunteers as a "Big" for Big Brother/Big Sisters, and also does community service through her work with the Civil Rights Team. Meg is a member of the National Honor Society. She will be attending Smith College, majoring in Theater.

HALEY ELISABETH PEAVEY, daughter of Daniel and Kelly Peavey of Damariscotta, is Salutatorian of the Class of 2009. She is active in sports, playing varsity soccer and both outdoor and indoor track. She is a member of the Climate Action Club, and participated in the One Act Play, "Orpheus." Haley was nominated for a Toyota Scholarship, and received the Phi Beta Kappa Award, Women in Engineering Award, Science Department Book Award, and Certificate of Excellence in Math Award. She has been a Lincoln Academy Student of the Month. Her community service consists of volunteering at a summer camp for the visually impaired; volunteering at Hodgdon Green Senior Citizens Home; coaching youth soccer at the YMCA; and teaching Sunday School. Haley is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Northeastern University, majoring in Math.

CHIARA MARIA PENNINGTON AZZARETTI, daughter of Nick Azzaretti and Kate Pennington of Newcastle, has been active in the Lincoln Academy Drama Club, International Club, Student Council, and the Civil Rights Team. She plays with the Coastal Youth Orchestra and the Portland Wind Ensemble. She was a National Merit Semifinalist, and was the recipient of the Cornell Book Award, the Prudential Spirit of Community Presidential Silver Award, and placed nationally in both the French and Spanish Exams. Her community service includes organizing and taking five separate trips to volunteer to help rebuild the storm-ravaged areas of New Orleans, and she volunteered for Equality Maine. Chiara is a member of the National Honor Society and will be attending Earlham College, majoring in Comparative Linguistics.

JULIA ELAINE BARNES, daughter of Christopher Barnes of Bremen and Diane Simonds of Nobleboro, has been active in the International Club, Drama Club, and Outing Club. She has also performed in Lincoln Academy's One Acts Plays, as well as Heartwood Regional Theater productions. She was the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Math during her freshmen year, the Award for Excellence in Science during her sophomore year, and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters "Pair of the Year" at Great Salt Bay School. Julia volunteered for a summer at the Montesorri Preschool, and is a "Big" for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Wake Forest University, and has not yet decided on a major.

MICHAEL ROSS BRODSKY, son of Irwin and Lori Brodsky of Woolwich, has been active in Alpha Sigma Gamma, Math Team, and the Civil Rights Team. He is a member of the Track Team and the Lincoln Academy Jazz Ensemble. Michael was also the Vice President of his class during his sophomore and junior years. He was the recipient of the Williams Book Award, and placed 6th in the State on the National Spanish Exam during his junior year. He placed 5th in the Central Maine Math League during his freshman year, and 3rd during his sophomore year. He has done volunteer work with Midcoast Hunger Prevention, the Humane Society, and through his work with Alpha Sigma Gamma. Michael is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Northwestern University, majoring in Pre-Med/Biology.

MICHAEL CONLEY CARTER, son of John Carter and Tari Conley of Edgecomb, has been active on the Civil Rights Team, Math Team, Student Council, and Alpha Sigma Gamma. He is a member of the Track and Field Team, and the Lincoln Academy Jazz Ensemble. He was the recipient of the Yale Book Award, and placed 1st and 3rd at the Mid-Maine Invitational Math Meet. He also received the Advanced Placement Scholar Award. Michael has done volunteer work with the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, Peer Tutoring, and his work with Alpha Sigma Gamma. He is a member of the National Honor Society and will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Engineering.

MEGAN REBECCA CHANDLER, daughter of Laurie Chandler of Damariscotta and Howard Chandler of Virginia, has been active in sports in Varsity Soccer and Varsity Lacrosse, and as manager of the Boys Basketball Team. She is a member of the Model United Nations and her church Youth Group. She is also President of the Class of 2009. She was a Maine Youth Leadership delegate, and the recipient of the Mt. Holyoke Book Award, KVAC All-Academic Award, and the Most Active Junior Award. Megan has done community service with her Youth Group, the Community Action Team, and has been a Sunday School Teacher and a Youth Soccer Coach. She is a member of the National Honor Society, serving as Co-President, and will be attending James Madison University, majoring in Nursing or Graphic Design.

ANTHONY ROBERT CIAMPA, son of Scott and Linda Ciampa of Woolwich, has been active in Sports playing Varsity Soccer as captain of his team, and Varsity Tennis where he was awarded Co-MVP. He is a member of Alpha Sigma Gamma (Vice President), and was President of his class during his junior year. He was selected as a delegate to Boys State and Breadloaf NEYWC. He has been a Lincoln Academy Student of the Month, and was voted Class of 2009 Most Active. Tony has performed community service through his work with Alpha Sigma Gamma, and volunteered as a referee for CLC YMCA Youth Soccer. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Northeastern University, majoring in Marketing/Economics.

BAVO GUNTHER DEGROOTE, son of Leslie Bird of Boothbay Harbor and Hugo DeGroote of Kenya, has been active on the Civil Rights Team, Model United Nations, Math Team, Model State Legislature, and Student Government as the Vice President of the Class of 2009. He is also a member of the Rocky Bay Pipe Band and the Lincoln Academy Wind Ensemble. He was selected as a delegate for Boys State which he attended in June of 2008. Bavo was the recipient of the Advanced Placement Scholar Award, the Lincoln Academy Achievement Cup, and a Horizon Scholarship. He has performed community service through his work with the Alpha Sigma Gamma Fraternity. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Cornell University, majoring in Government.

HILARY ABBIE HANSCOM, niece of Paul and Amy Mitchell of Walpole, has been active in the International Club, and as a Senior Mentor and Peer Tutor. She was the recipient of the National French Exam Award, placing 18th in the State for Level 1, 13th in the State for Level II, and 19th in the State for Level IV. Hilary has volunteered her time at the aftercare program at Coastal Kids Preschool. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending the University of Maine - Orono, majoring in French/Spanish.

ADRIA CARMEN HOLMES, daughter of Russell and Tammy Holmes of Pemaquid, has been active in the Performing Arts Club, Lincolnaires, P.A.V.A.S., and as a Senior Mentor. She performs and teaches at Midcoast Dance Studio, taking both ballet and jazz, and co-teaching a jazz class. She has also performed in Plays both at school and with the Lincoln County Community Theater. She enjoys playing piano. She was the recipient of the Spanish Excellence Award, and the Musical Achievement Award. Adria volunteers as a "Big" with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and with her Youth Group. She has also played piano at benefits for different organizations, as well as graduations and at church. She will be attending Endicott College in the fall, majoring in Creative Writing.

KARI HANNUM JONES, daughter of Robert and Beth Jones of Nobleboro, has been active in sports, playing Varsity Basketball, Soccer, and Softball all four years. She is a member of the Yearbook Committee, Prom Committee, and the International Club. Kari has been the recipient of numerous sports awards, including being a two time MVP winner, 2nd Team All-Conference KVAC Winner for Basketball and Soccer, an All-Academic Team Winner, and the Coaches Award for Softball during her junior year. She was selected to the All Rookie Team for Basketball during her freshmen year, and has served as team captain for all three sports. She volunteers her time refereeing Youth Soccer and Youth Basketball, and coached the 7th and 8th grade travel team during 2007. Kari is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Maine Maritime Academy, majoring in International Business and Logistics.

ANNA-MARIE ELIZABETH LEE, daughter of Betsy Lee of Newcastle and Earl Lee of Delaware, has been active in the International Club, Climate Action Club, and Peer Tutors. She is a member of the Swim Team and also takes ballet, tap and modern dance at Midcoast Dance Studio, where she is also a teacher. She was the recipient of the Bowdoin Book Award, the Coaches Award for Swimming, and the John Philip Sousa Band Award. Her community service consists of volunteering during youth events, and making mission trips to the Dominican Republic. Anna is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending the Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in ASL Translating.

DANA SAUL MALSEPTIC, son of Judith Weisman of Damariscotta and Ronald Malseptic of New York, has been active on the Civil Rights Team, Climate Action Club, Performing Arts Club, and Alpha Sigma Gamma. He has participated in sports as a member of the Track Team. He plays with the Lincoln Academy Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Band, and enjoys writing music and playing piano. He was selected as a delegate to Boys State and attended in June of 2008, and has received awards for Classical and Jazz Music. Dana has performed community service through his work as President of the Alpha Sigma Gamma Fraternity. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending SUNY Purchase College - Conservatory of Music, majoring in Jazz Performance/Composition.

HOLLY C. MARTIN, daughter of David and JaJa Martin of Bremen, has been active in the Drama Club, Theater, Art, and Lincolnaires. She has participated in sports as a member of the Swim Team. She is a sailing instructor, and also plays the flute and harmonica. Holly has placed in the top twenty in the State on the National French Exam for three years in a row, and participated in the National Math Exam for the last two years. She volunteers in the summer for the YMCA Sailing Camp. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending the Florida Institute of Technology, majoring in Marine Biology.

TAYLOR ANN PEPPER, daughter of Peter and Cynthia Pepper of Nobleboro, has been active in Peer Tutoring. She has participated in Field Hockey and Wind Ensemble. She was the recipient of a Certificate for Excellence in Math, National Spanish Exam Placement, and has had Perfect Attendance three years in a row. She was also a Lincoln Academy Student of the Month. Taylor has volunteered at the Lincoln County Animal Shelter and at Eolian Farms. She will be attending Northeastern University, majoring in Criminal Justice.

KAITLYN MARIE PLUMMER, daughter of Christian and Tammy Plummer of South Bristol, has been active in sports playing both J.V. and Varsity Field Hockey. She is a member of Peer Tutors and the International Club, and did a student exchange in France. She was the recipient of the Excellence in French Award, and placed in the top ten in the State on the National French Exam. Kaitlyn volunteers her time as a "Big" for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending the University of New England, majoring in Pharmacy.

CELESTE A. PROSE, daughter of Rick and Barbara Prose of West Boothbay Harbor, has been active in sports playing Varsity Field Hockey. She is a member of the Civil Rights Team and also enjoys acting. She spent her junior year abroad in France. She has been the recipient of Varsity Letters for her participation in Field Hockey. Celeste has volunteered her time helping rebuild New Orleans during four separate trips. She will be attending Guilford College this fall, undecided in her major, but interested in Psychology and Animal Behavior.

BRYAN JOSEPH RATTLEFF, son of Timothy and Shannon Rattleff of Woolwich, has been active on the Rally Team, Peer Tutors, and the Boy Scouts of America, where he serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He is the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. Bryan volunteers his time at the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene Food Pantry, and does community service for his Eagle Scout Project. He will be attending Maine Maritime Academy this fall, majoring in Marine Systems Engineering.


COLTON T. SABLINSKY, son of Ted and Bonnie Sablinsky of Bristol, has been active in the International Club and Senior Mentors. He will be attending the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in Engineering.

SHAWNA LEE SEARLES, daughter of Charlotte Simmons of Nobleboro, has been active in Peer Mediations, the Gay-Straight Alliance, and the B.O.O.K.I.E.S. through Skimdompha Library. She has performed community service through her work with Skidompha Library. Shawna is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Simmons College, majoring in Computer and Information Technology.

CLAYTON SHERMAN SPINNEY, III, is the son of Clayton Spinney of Jefferson and Patricia Marsha of Jefferson. His plans after high school are undecided at this time.

JONATHAN SPROUL, son of Alden and Susan Sproul of Bristol, has been active in sports on the Tennis Team, and in sailing and surfing. He was the recipient of the All Conference First Team Singles Award in Tennis, as well as the Coaches Award and Co-MVP Award. He placed 15th in State on the National Spanish Exam. Jonathan has done volunteer work at the Community Housing Improvement Project. He will be attending the University of Southern Maine, majoring in Political Science.

LESLEY B. YATES, daughter of Calvin and Janet Yates of Nobleboro, has been active in the Lincolnaires, serving as Co-President, and Lincoln Academy and Heartwood Theater Productions, including "Into the Woods," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Big River," and "Godspell." She is Vice President of the Student Council, and a member of the International Club and the Performing Arts Club. She was selected in both 2008 and 2009 for the All State Choral Festival, and from 2005 through 2009 for the Maine District III Choral Festival. She also received the Sheepscot Valley Community Choir Student Musician Award. Lesley volunteers her time as a "Big" for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and does community service with the LA Players. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and will be attending Boston Conservatory, majoring in Classical Voice/Opera.
